Sustainability
A second life for good things
The most sustainable product is one that already exists. A good deal of what we do follows from that.
Stock that already exists
A significant part of what we send was made by someone else and never found its buyer — over-produced, discontinued, or displaced when a range changed. Perfectly good pieces, made with real materials, headed for clearance or disposal.
We find those and give them somewhere better to go. It is not the whole of what we do, and we won't overstate it, but it means a meaningful share of every coffret is composed from stock that would otherwise have been wasted.
Packaging worth keeping
Our vessels are chosen to be reused rather than discarded — a box that holds something afterwards, a tin that keeps its usefulness. Where we use paper it is uncoated and recyclable. Where packaging can be left out altogether, we leave it out.
We are not yet where we want to be on transit packaging. That is the next thing we are working on.
What we don't claim
We hold no environmental certification, and we won't display a badge we haven't earned. We don't describe ourselves as carbon neutral, plastic free or zero waste, because we are none of those things yet.
What we can say is specific: we buy stock that already exists wherever we can, we choose packaging meant to be kept, and we would rather tell you what we have not done than imply we have done it.
What comes next
Formalising our surplus sourcing so we can report what proportion of each coffret it represents. Reducing transit packaging further. Publishing the makers we buy from directly, once those relationships are settled enough to name.
We will update this page as that work progresses, and only with things we have actually done.
