Wool blankets, and for now all from one maker: The British Blanket Company, a brother-and-sister business in Bristol that works with mills in the British Isles.

Orders start at £20 — smaller pieces travel with company.

The Clifton herringbones come in four colourways — a pale Bath stone, a greyed green the colour of a hedge in late summer, a warm stone grey, and a navy that disappears into a sofa.

The two Wildweaves set two shades against each other so the cloth shifts as it moves: juniper against moss, navy against a softer blue-grey. A merino herringbone in smoked blue, woven in Donegal, is the finer fibre — the one that ends up on the bed rather than the chair.

The recycled wool blanket is the outlier: colour arrived at rather than chosen, no two alike, and hard-wearing enough for the car boot or the garden bench. Wool throughout, and prices start in the forties.
