What it is
Ten multicoloured LEDs on a 95-centimetre string, wound onto a cork that fits the neck of an empty bottle. Push the string in, twist the cork home, and an ordinary bottle turns into something worth leaving on the table. The string drops down inside the bottle, which is where the light comes from.
Fourteen grams, cork and wire together, and a charge of about an hour gives four hours of light. The battery is sealed inside the cork and not replaceable, so when it eventually goes there is nothing to open.
Better on a clear bottle than a green one, if you have the choice of both. The bottle does as much of the work here as the light does, which is a good reason to keep an interesting one back.
For a table that gets used late, and for the person who would rather light a room from three small places than one big one.
