What it is
A sticky tape dispenser in the shape of a cassette, moulded in heavy rubber so it stays where it is when you pull. It pulls apart to reload, which is more than could be said for the original format.
It takes standard 19-millimetre by 33-metre rolls, a common size rather than a proprietary one, and arrives with one to start you off. A hundred and forty by ninety millimetres and 222 grams: small enough for a shelf, heavy enough to use with one hand while the other holds the parcel.
Rubber is a quiet material to have on a desk. It does not skate away when you pull, which is most of what a dispenser is being asked to do.
For someone who posts things, wraps things, or still has a shoebox of tapes in the loft. Reloading it is the same small ceremony that loading the original was. An ordinary tool in a good disguise.
