There is no aisle here painted a different colour, and nothing on this page was chosen because of who it is supposedly for. What we keep is a shelf of well-made things and one way of choosing between them: start with what the person actually does.
Orders start at £20 — smaller pieces travel with company.
Free UK delivery on every order.
For someone who winds down slowly
A lambswool blanket woven in the Scottish Borders and an oil for after a long day outdoors.
Bath and body is Petalby Spa; the blankets are Petalby Home. The two overlap more than the departments suggest.
How this page is sorted
Not by gender. By habit.
A gift lands when it recognises something true about the person opening it — the walk that happens before the house wakes, the desk that collects small useful objects, the border that gets weeded in the rain. Those are habits, and they are far better evidence than a category ever was.
So the sections below are habits rather than departments. The same shelf turns up in more than one of them, and if none of the habits fit, the last section is the honest answer instead of a guess.
When you do not know the habit
Sometimes there is no habit to go on, and pretending otherwise produces the gift that gets re-gifted. A Curated Collection is composed by hand from the same shelves as everything above, and the contents stay secret until it is opened.
Every collection is composed against the same standard, whatever its size. The tiers and what governs them are on the Curated Collections page.
For someone whose desk is where the tinkering happens
A pencil that is also a lamp, a stapler carved as an elephant, and a brass-toned rest that holds a book open at the page. Small objects, each doing one thing properly.
They come from Petalby Tech: desk toys and design-led gadgets rather than serious electronics, and nothing that needs an app.
For someone happiest outside
A stainless trowel with an ash handle, gauntlet gloves in ticking stripe, and a galvanised trug that will outlast the border it serves. Tools chosen to be used, not displayed.
Every one of these belongs to Petalby Garden, whose shelf is the tools and the things that outlast them, and never plants or seeds.
For someone who walks the dog before anyone else is up
Harris Tweed on a leather-trimmed lead, a herringbone collar cut to match, and a sherpa-lined blanket for the back of the car. Made for weather and for repetition.
More of it, including beds and baskets, is in Petalby Pets.
For someone who cooks for other people
Cork placemats and trivets, pressed from the bark and not the tree, in weights that sit flat and do not slide. The kind of thing noticed only when it is missing.
They live in Petalby Home, which holds the fragrance and the tableware at the moment; the cork pieces are not in stock.
