What it is
An open book, moulded and lit from within, that holds your place while it lights the room. Set it down over the pages you were reading and it does two things at once. A soft warm lamp on the bedside table, and a rest that stops a paperback closing itself.
USB powered, with the cable included, so it wants a socket within reach rather than a battery of its own. The LED is warm and stays cool to the touch, which matters in an object made to stand on paper. 116 by 145 by 180 millimetres, narrow enough for a shelf that is already full.
The shape does the work here. Lit, it reads as a book from across the room; set down over your page, it is doing the job a bookmark was invented for.
For the reader who marks their place with whatever is nearest: a receipt, a train ticket, the other book. Two jobs, one object, and nothing to lose down the side of the bed.
