What it is
A pencil pot shaped like a giant sharpener, turned from rubberwood with a stainless steel blade set into the top — which is to say it sharpens as well as it stores, and does both without a second object on the desk. It is one of the few desk objects that is honest about what it is for.
Rubberwood comes from trees felled at the end of their latex-producing years, so it is a by-product rather than a crop. Eighty-five by 120 millimetres, 264 grams, and weighted enough not to tip when a pencil is yanked out of the top. The blade is stainless steel rather than the moulded plastic of a pocket sharpener.
