What it is
A wooden board that tips, a bee, and forty-four flowers to stack on it without bringing the whole thing down. Get three white flowers onto the poles and you have won. Move the bee, and you can quietly undo somebody else's afternoon.
Balance is a fair fight. A steady hand beats knowing the rules, so a child and an adult play each other on level terms, and neither has to pretend.
The board is thirty-eight centimetres across and the set weighs six hundred grams, which a child can carry to the table without help. Bigjigs make it from FSC-certified wood with a non-toxic painted finish. The pieces go back into a cotton drawstring bag, which is the only reason forty-four flowers are not under the sofa by the second week.
For three years and over, and reasonably unforgiving at any age. One for a long afternoon at the kitchen table, and for the child who has started to want to win.
