What it is
The game everybody already knows, in wood rather than plastic: a standing frame, red and blue counters, and the small satisfaction of the drop. Four in a line in any direction and it is over.
Two players, one colour each, and no rules to read out to anybody. The frame is twenty-eight centimetres square, made by Bigjigs from FSC-certified wood and finished in non-toxic paint and lacquer. It stands on a table and folds away flat.
A lacquered finish is what lets a wooden thing be wiped rather than scrubbed, which matters more than it sounds in the year after a birthday. Counters in two colours mean a round can be played by anyone who can tell red from blue.
For three years and over, and for anyone considerably older who fancies being beaten by a five-year-old on a wet afternoon. The one to keep in the cupboard for visiting cousins, and it works just as well for two adults waiting on dinner.
