Orders start at £20, so this one travels with company. Anything from £9 in Spa takes it past the line, or The Bud stands on its own.

What it is

A cork with a bright LED set into the top of it, made to sit in the neck of a bottle you have already emptied. Twist it to switch it on, and a green wine bottle becomes a lamp for the length of a long table. The bottle does not go out with the recycling; it gets a second job instead.

Fifty millimetres tall and ten grams. It charges by USB in an hour and runs for about three. Cork gives a little where a rigid plug would not. It fits most standard bottle necks.

Suitable indoors and out, so a kitchen table in February and a garden table in July, the same object either way. The battery is sealed inside and cannot be replaced, which is worth knowing before you buy.

A small thing to give someone who keeps the good bottles back, and a light for anyone who wants a table lit without a flame to watch.

A small parcel tied with twine and a blank card on an oak table.

Our promise

Every piece here is chosen on its own merits by a person who has handled the alternatives and set most of them aside. Some of what we sell we make ourselves; the rest is made by other people and chosen by us, and we say which is which.

If it arrives damaged, faulty or not as described, we replace it or refund it, and we pay the return postage. Our Promise, written down.

Not sure this is the one? The Bud is composed by hand around pieces like it, and the contents stay a secret until it is opened.
