Cork mats and trivets, coasters, a low matt-black cake plate, and mugs drawn in Lincolnshire by Sophie Allport — everything on this shelf is either laid on a table or lifted from it.
Most of it is made in Cornwall by LIGA, in cork stripped by hand from the cork oak, or in Beach Clean, the recycled plastic they press into a speckled, stone-like surface. Cork takes the heat out of a dish and wipes clean with a damp cloth; the Beach Clean pieces are steady enough to live on the table rather than in a drawer.
The sets run from three to eight: trivets in threes, coasters and mats in fours, and two sets of eight that hold four mats with four matching coasters in one box. A boxed set of six foliage placemats comes from Denby, designed in England and made in China — good for a housewarming, or for making a Tuesday table feel considered.
