What it is
Four round mats and four matching coasters, made from plastic recovered rather than newly made. LIGA call the material Beach Clean: recycled plastic pressed into a speckled, stone-like surface that reads as a natural material until you look closely and see the flecks of what it used to be.
Eight pieces in one box, which is the point — mats and coasters that actually match are harder to come by than they should be. Wipe clean, hard-wearing, and quietly the most interesting thing on the table. Made in Cornwall.
The speckle is not a printed pattern; it is what recovered plastic looks like once it has been pressed. Round mats and round coasters in the same finish mean a table can be laid in one material, which is the difference between a set and a collection of things that happen to be out.
For a household that eats at the table most nights, a wedding list, or a housewarming present that will be in use before the week is out.
