What it is
A herringbone wool blanket in the pale, sandy neutral the makers named after Bath stone. Herringbone is the weave that gives wool its quiet texture — close up it is a pattern, from across the room it is simply warmth with a bit of depth to it.
Wool does the thing synthetics still cannot: it holds heat without holding damp, and it settles over the arm of a chair rather than sliding off it. Designed in Bristol and woven in England, from The British Blanket Company.
The colour is the useful part. A pale sandy neutral sits beside oak, beside painted furniture, and beside the sofa somebody else chose — it is the shade to buy when the blanket should not be the loudest decision in the room.
We stock four colourways of the Clifton Herringbone: this one, a warm stone grey, a soft greyed green and a deep navy. Over the end of a bed all year, or on the arm of the chair by the window. A wedding present, a fiftieth, or something for the person who is always first to say they are cold.
