What it is
A herringbone wool blanket in a soft, greyed green — the colour of a hedge in late summer rather than anything brighter. It is the shade that tends to solve a room, because it sits beside wood, linen and most existing furniture without asking for anything.
From The British Blanket Company: woven in England, to a herringbone that shows its texture in raking light. Wool, so it warms quickly and stays breathable, and heavy enough to stay where it is put.
Herringbone is a twill run in alternating directions, which is where the fine diagonal comes from: a pattern up close, a plain warm green from the doorway. That texture is the reason a single-colour blanket does not read as flat.
We stock four colourways of the Clifton Herringbone: this greyed green, a warm stone grey, a pale sandy Bath Stone and a deep navy. Green is the one for a room that is already busy, or a bed that wants one more layer from October onwards. It suits a house of oak and linen, and a landing chair that never gets sat in until someone stays over.
A green that argues with nothing.
