What it is
Four linen bags, ten centimetres square, with a spring garden worked in appliquéd wool-mix felt and embroidery over the top. Dried lavender buds come in the box, so nothing else needs buying — they are finished and useful on the same evening.
Natural flax linen, coordinated DMC threads, felt, a needle, filling, full-scale templates and a stitch guide. Full-scale means the templates are cut around as they come, with no enlarging to work out first. Made in Britain by a small Yorkshire studio.
Appliqué is felt cut, laid down and stitched over rather than worked flat, so the garden sits slightly proud of the linen. Ten centimetres square is a drawer size — between folded jumpers, in a suitcase, on a wardrobe shelf.
Four bags out of one kit is enough to keep some and give the rest away. For someone setting up a first home, or for a maker who wants a project that ends in something used rather than hung.
