What it is
Rose water, distilled and bottled in England, in an amber glass bottle small enough to keep beside a basin. The scent is soft and faintly green — closer to the garden than the perfume counter. A few drops over cool skin after a bath, or on a folded flannel.
One hundred millilitres, in amber glass rather than plastic. Amber is the usual glass for this sort of thing because it keeps the light out, and it has the incidental virtue of looking like something you would leave on show.
A hydrolat is the water side of a distillation rather than the oil, which is why it goes on light and is used as a splash rather than as a treatment. Nothing here is asked to do more than smell of roses and feel cool.
For someone whose bathroom is already loud with scent and could do with one quiet thing in it, or for the person who runs a cold flannel over their face in July. An old idea, in a small bottle, and no rush about it.
