Orders start at £20, so this one travels with company. Anything from £4 takes it past the line, or The Bud stands on its own.

What it is

A stoneware mug with a bee drawn on each side, small and specific rather than decorative. Stoneware has weight to it — the mug sits in the hand instead of perching in it, and holds heat longer than thin china does.

A drawing on each side means the bee faces the room whichever way the mug is set down, and whichever hand reaches for it. Stoneware is a dense, heavy-bodied ceramic, which is where both the weight and the heat retention come from. One of the drawings Sophie Allport makes from her Lincolnshire studio.

A mug is a small thing to be particular about, and most households end up particular anyway: there is always one that is somebody's. The kind of mug that quietly becomes theirs.

For a tea drinker, a desk that needs improving on a Tuesday, or someone who keeps a bee-friendly corner of the garden and will not stop talking about it.

A small parcel tied with twine and a blank card on an oak table.

Our promise

Every piece here is chosen on its own merits by a person who has handled the alternatives and set most of them aside. Some of what we sell we make ourselves; the rest is made by other people and chosen by us, and we say which is which.

If it arrives damaged, faulty or not as described, we replace it or refund it, and we pay the return postage. Our Promise, written down.

Not sure this is the one? The Bud is composed by hand around pieces like it, and the contents stay a secret until it is opened.

No reviews are shown on this page yet. Ours come only from verified orders and are published as written, from the first one we approve. How reviews work.
