What it is
Olive branches printed on a linen-cotton blend, in the muted green and grey that make a kitchen look calmer than it usually is. The linen content gives it a slight slub and a quicker dry than plain cotton.
Slub is the small unevenness in a linen thread, and it is the reason linen cloth has texture where plain cotton has none. Linen is a flax fibre, so the quick drying is a property of the fibre rather than a finish added afterwards. Designed in Lincolnshire by Sophie Allport.
It hangs well, which sounds like a small thing until you have owned a tea towel that does not. Green and grey are two colours a kitchen can absorb without anyone having to redecorate around them.
For a new flat, a small thank-you, or the friend who owns one good pan and no tea towels worth the name. A tea towel is a modest thing to give, and a modest thing is often the one that ends up used daily.
