What it is
Freya, Olga and Erik: three small wooden gnomes, with three toadstools and two leaves to arrange around them. A whole world in eight pieces, which is about the right number — enough to make somewhere out of, few enough to put away again.
The three of them are named, which is the difference between a set of shapes and a family with something going on. Eight pieces will not fill a toy box or take an evening to gather up, and they sit as well on a shelf as they do on the floor.
Reclaimed rubberwood from Indonesian plantations, finished in non-toxic paint, in soft colours rather than bright ones. Thirty centimetres across the set as it stands, from Tender Leaf Toys. For three years and over, and it scales with the rest of the Merrywood Tales pieces.
A first piece to start a shelf, or the one somebody else adds to at the next birthday.
