What it is
Clear glass is the quietest way to bring fragrance into a room that has plenty going on in it already. Against a painted wall, or on a shelf of books with loud spines, it takes the colour of whatever stands behind it rather than adding one of its own. Choosing clear over a colour is a decision about the shelf, not about the scent.
The transparency earns its keep a second time. Reeds show their full length through the glass, and the oil level stays in plain sight, so there is never any guessing about where the bottle has got to.
From Ancient Wisdom. It suits the rooms nobody remembers to go into — a spare bedroom, a downstairs cloakroom, the landing outside them both — because it keeps working in an empty room and asks for nothing while it does.
Most homes could use one object that does not ask to be looked at.
