What it is
The lead that matches the Hartland collar, in the same pale green and off-white cotton ticking. Soft enough to hold without gloves in February, which is the test a lead actually has to pass.
A metre long and twenty millimetres wide, with a metal trigger hook at the dog end and a nylon core hidden inside the cloth. Handmade in England by the maker's own sewing team.
Ticking is a plain, unfussy cloth, and it wears in rather than out — a lead that looks a little better after a wet autumn than it did in the box.
Twenty millimetres is a narrow lead, and it sits well in a smaller hand. For someone who already has the Hartland collar and would like the set, and for anyone who has quietly had enough of black nylon webbing. It is the plainest thing to hold and, on a dark February morning, the most pleasant.
