What it is
The matching lead to the Scotasay collar, in the same green herringbone Harris Tweed and lined with the same navy cotton scattered with small white stars. Green is the colour that reads as countryside rather than kit.
A metre long and twenty-two millimetres wide. A metal trigger hook at the dog end, a hand-sized loop at the other, and a nylon core running the whole length inside the tweed — so the cloth is the look and the core is the strength.
Handmade in Britain. The Harris Tweed Authority label sits on the seam.
A metre is the ordinary lead length: long enough for a pavement, short enough to keep a dog out of a road. For the person who already has the Scotasay collar and would like the pair, and for anyone who would rather hold cloth on a cold morning than a strip of webbing. A lead is also the easier half of the pair to buy for someone else, since it needs no neck measurement, and twenty-two millimetres across a palm is a different experience from a nylon loop.
