What it is
A bow tie for a cat, six and a half centimetres by five, in mud cloth — the hand-painted Malian cotton whose black and white marks are made with fermented river mud rather than dye. At this scale the pattern reads as texture, which is why it works where a floral would not.
Cotton, hand-painted, which means no two pieces of the cloth carry quite the same marks. It threads onto any cat collar a centimetre wide, including the stretch collars from the same maker.
Entirely unnecessary, obviously.
For the cat who tolerates a collar, and for the household that finds this funnier than the cat does. It is an easy thing to send on its own, since it posts through a letterbox and needs nobody waiting in. Good for a new cat, a milestone nobody else will mark, or the family photograph someone insists on taking every December.
