What it is
A small oak tool that clips to a pocket or an apron and solves the problem of needing three hands. Feed the twine through, wrap it round the peg for tension, pull down across the blade — the plant stays held, the twine is cut, and the scissors stay in the shed.
13.5 centimetres of oak, designed in-house and made in England. It arrives with a spool of Nutscene jute twine and a card of instructions. Nothing else is needed to start.
Oak is a dense hardwood, which is why it turns up in hand tools rather than in packaging. A peg, a blade and a clip is the whole of the design.
For tying in tomatoes, beans and anything that has to be held with one hand while the other does the work. It suits someone who spends time in a greenhouse, and anyone who has lost a pair of scissors to a bed this year. A small present, and one of the few that gets used the day it is opened.
