What it is
Somewhere between a cushion and a kindness to your knees. Two layers of memory foam sit over a light EVA core, so it takes the edge off a paved path without turning into a sponge after one wet morning. It is the thing that decides whether the last row gets weeded.
The cover is heavyweight cotton ticking with a PVC coating, so it wipes clean. A leather tag and a webbing handle finish it, the handle for carrying it down the garden. 44 by 23 by 5 centimetres, handles aside.
A PVC-coated surface wipes down with a cloth, which is what you want from a thing that spends its life on wet soil.
For anyone who gardens from a kneel rather than a squat, and for the raised bed that turns out to be exactly the wrong height. Useful too for jobs with no plants in them — bleeding a radiator, reaching the back of a low cupboard. A good present for someone who has been using a folded towel.
Part of the Sophie Conran range, made by Burgon & Ball.
